URUSHICA at THE CONRAN SHOP

ZOZO NEXT's project Yobiiro has collaborated with Urushindo, a lacquerware studio in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, to develop URUSHICA, a lacquerware product that is compatible with microwave ovens and dishwashers. URUSHICA will be featured in The Conran Shop's "Katachi" exhibition.

Japan has a unique climate and culture that has given rise to distinctive materials and traditional craftsmanship techniques that have been passed down through generations.

"Katachi" brings together items from various regions of Japan, each with its own unique form, showcasing the beauty of their shapes. The exhibition highlights forms that are aesthetically pleasing, those that were designed with functionality in mind, and those that change in appearance over time, offering a glimpse into the charm of Japanese craftsmanship through eight different "Katachi."

URUSHICA is featured as part of the "Inherited Form" section.

The "Inherited Form" represents tools that connect tradition with everyday life. These items are born from the intersection of traditional techniques and contemporary design, gaining value not by being displayed in special places but by being used in daily life. The exhibition showcases forms that are passed down from the past to the future, continuing to be used in everyday life.

URUSHICA is a product jointly developed by Urushindo, which has a vision of "continuing to lacquer for the next 100 years," and ZOZO NEXT. By combining contemporary technology with traditional craftsmanship, the product achieves adhesion between lacquer and heat-resistant resin, making it compatible with dishwashers and microwave ovens. The combination of the free form made possible by heat-resistant resin and the beautiful texture of lacquer brings lacquerware closer to everyday life, proposing new possibilities for its use.
